• Clarity

To improve your writing you'll have to be transparent in the sense that you're able to pen down words using short active verbs, and always try to be concise during your construct. Always try to make your readers understand your perception of things, don't be rigid with your words, and be able to avoid writing errors. Avoid does errors in stringing multiple nouns in sentences and phrases; not being able to create an actual voice.

Each writer has his/her voice that they create while they write.

And in all be you. No matter how clear your work is and it does not reflect you that isn't your work.

• Avoid Trying to Explain Everything and Use Contractions

Writers make a lot of errors when they create enough room for the reader to imagine and explore. It makes the work boring. Being able to explain your chosen topic is cool, but not leaving a gap towards the end game of a mystery would cause a dent in your writing.

Using contractions helps in giving your work more simplicity and doing that without being rigid and formal your work becomes interesting to readers.

For example:

You decided to write to a friend, and you try to express an event using the first-person point of view by using "I".

You wrote: I was so excited at the center that I will probably come back always.

Now let's use contractions.

I was so excited at the center that I'll probably come back always.

The difference between the two sentences is that using contractions saves time when you write and makes it reader-friendly.

More Examples on Contractions:

I'm not I am

We're not we are

We've not We have.

Contractions are fun to use and know when to apply them to your writing.

Dissect Writing that you admire.

Enjoying a gay piece of short poetry isn't bad but as a writer who yearns for improvement, you should avoid trying just to enjoy what has been presented to you.

Try to break down each word format, each tense, and each metaphor being used. If you take your writing seriously you need to learn this ability.

Dissecting a poem takes an incredible understanding of what the writer is covering through his/her words. So dissecting these words into a simpler form makes things interesting and improves your writing.

I see the pain in so many eyes that try to hold back tears.

In time the glass breaks and every emotion would slip out of the cradle

To the surface of the black woman that nurtures it with strong convictions never to perspire against the torture of men.

I see a woman of so many hidden mysteries.

So complicated yet mild and creative.

Blessed with a skin that curses her daily.

Born into the dogma of societal discipline.

Her feet under the rain, under the sun, under so many secrete that are yet to be known.

A woman of pride and vigor.

A woman whose pain tells a story of the future.

Depict Writers you adore.

Depicting your favorite writer is very fun and easy, until when your favorite writer is Scott Fitzgerald. When I began to write I read a few short stories and Instagram poems from young writers and it was amazing. I had a favorite Instagram poet… more like he still my Instagram poet.

I learned from depicting the stylish short poetry he writes, even though he was more experienced than I was, but I still learned from his everyday update.

Get Rid of Filler Words and Grammar Rule Books.

Filler words a brief meaningless words that show up in your writing daily. They're words that we use to fill our conversation pauses. These words are the Umm, Uh, Eh that clutter our conversations. Sometimes these filler words might not be all meaningless in your works, they might add significance to some dialogues and tones even though most of the time they just litter. Here are Filler Words You Can Eliminate Right Now.

The grammar rule book does not add anything to your work, it just restricts your creativity. So feel free to start your sentences the way you see fit.

Learn New Words Every and Stick to Simple Words.

Updating your word arsenal daily is great. And it gives you varieties to pick from, also knowing the right word to use in your construct.

Even with your knowledge of words, try as much as possible to stick to simple words. Avoid using too many fancy words just to gloat that you know them. You don't count after you've written your work, the reader's understanding is all that matters. Words we know and words the readers know to gain more intimacy between you and your readers.

Create Outlines

Thinking about what you want to write comes different in writers, but outline that idea to generate more ideas is constant. To be able to outline your ideas you'll have to establish your topic, classify your main ideas and review them.

Get an Editing Tool

I personally think Grammarly would be a great first choice in your self-improvement phase. It has helped me during my writer's block phase by showing simple synonyms to change a word that got me confused.

For me, I'll personally advise you to use Grammarly to do your editing, because it's easy to use and accessible.

Find a Writing Partner and Practice Everyday.

When you wake up in the morning after you're done with your usual rituals try writing above two hundred words in your journal. Try practicing active dialogues with your writing partner if you have. Because the ultimate way to improve your writing is to learn. In general, that's the basics to improve yourself in any skill or art you're practicing.

If you don't have a writing partner I advise you to get one and start working on some topics to improve your writing.

Join a workshop or Take Writing Classes.

Not everyone feels joining a workshop is crucial, but I say to you it's as important as anything you hold dear. In a workshop or a class, you get easily criticized in a safe environment. Your works get audited and you receive good advice and knowledge from the lecturer or professor in charge of the class.

Joining a workshop would be great for you so that you might learn further and advance yourself towards being the Next Rupi Kaur, or Dan Brown.

Just Write and Enjoy Doing it

This is my last and final step for this post. I'm all emotional right now because I was told the same, "Tello Just Write" and I wrote during the happiest and saddest I wrote. Every idea that pops in my head I create a piece out of it and make it amazing. And always avoid editing while writing, it's a bad habit.

Enjoy these free easy steps and become a better writer.
